San Augustinillo : A Great Daytrip from Zipolite
A couple of miles from Zipolite you will find a little town called San Augustinillo which is situated on a beach which is also called San Augustinillo. This area is not so crowded like Zipolite but does not offer all the amenities like that of its neighbor either which is why this is such a great daytrip. In San Augustinillo you will only find a couple convenience marts, a handful of restaurants, and very few beach bungalows. In San Augustinillo there are a couple isolated coves that provide some very safe swimming options unlike the neighboring beach of Zipolite. You should avoid the rocky areas as they do pose some danger. Many people like to come here to surf, boogie board or snorkel. If you would like to try any of these water activities you can rent gear at the Lindo y Que Rico Mexico for 52 pesos for an hour of boogie boarding and you will find this water activity rental stand on the west side of the beach town. If you are a novice this is a great area to try to learn and a much safer option than neighboring Zipolite whose waves can be quite dangerous at times. The Mexico Lindo also has rooms for rent and they have some of the best options here in San Augustinillo. These rooms are new and modern and provide clean private bathrooms with fans and also double sized beds. You can get a single or double occupancy room for around 260 pesos per night and a triple and quad occupancy room for 360 pesos per night. If this is a bit out of your price range you may prefer to stay the night at Casa de Huespedes Kaly which provides very nice and clean rooms that come with fans, mosquito nets, and very plush and comfy beds. The bathrooms here are some of the cleanest in San Augustinillo. The drawback here is that they do not have hot water. You will pay 210 pesos a night for a single or double occupancy room. They have a restaurant that is attached to the casa that has some very tasty shrimp dishes that cost 75 pesos, and some very large portion meat entrees that cost around 85 pesos. They are open every day from 9am-8pm. If you wish to get to San Augustinillo while staying in Mazunte you can get there via camioneta from Zipolite. The camionetas have rides going there every 1/2 hour and the cost is 5 pesos. The camionetas also have service to Pochutla.
