Food and Hotels on the Costa Grande

A lot of the hotels in this area are very expensive and do not have air conditioning. If you head in to town on the main road you will find the Casa Puesta Del Sol has many beautiful rooms that have very nicely painted walls, large windows, and a full kitchen is included. They also have private baths that have been tiled and are very clean. These rooms are more like villas. This is a great option if you are traveling with your family or a group of friends. The suites go for 610 pesos per night and if you want an even bigger room with its own private sun deck you will pay 850 pesos per night. They only accept cash as payment so you better hit the bank before coming here. There is also a resort hotel called Hotel Barra de Potosi which you will find located on the town’s main road. This hotel has a pool right by the beach and its own restaurant also on the beach where you can dine and have beers or cocktails. The rooms are big and not as clean as the Casa Puesta Del Sol but the rates are a bit more reasonable. The rooms come with fans, televisions, and private bathrooms. The rooms are not all the same nor do they all offer the same amenities. The rooms here cost 300 pesos for 1-2 person rooms, 410 pesos for a room without a view and a little bigger, 510 pesos if you would like an ocean view, and a suite room that can occupy up to 6 people costs 610 pesos and the same room with a view of the ocean costs 810 pesos per night. They only accept cash as payment.

On the beach there are almost one dozen enramada style restaurants. They are all very much alike and serve many of the same dishes. There is not one that stands out above the others. The types of food you will find within the enramadas are very hearty and home cooked. The enramdas are a great place to relax and drink in a hammock right on the beach. The atmosphere is quite casual and only a few have a formal menu. Most of the people just tell them what they would like and they serve based on what type of food you are in the mood for. Most of the dishes offered are centered around seafood as you are right on the water and when in Rome, do like the Romans. The meals here cost around 90 pesos per person. The most common meals include fish, shrimp, and octopus all prepared the way you would like them. They are open every day from 9am-8pm.
