Food and Hotels in Real de Catorce

When visiting Real de Catorce there are two types of hotel. The one type is very cheap, small, and usually is located in one of the many casas that has a sign in their front yard that says “we rent rooms.” The other type is very extravagant, large and extremely expensive. The prices change it just depends which season you are visiting in. The most expensive time to find a hotel is when there is a festival or on the weekends. If you travel to Real de Catorce during Semana Santa, the month of December, or July and August you will want to give yourself plenty of time to plan and book your trip as these are high season in real de Catorce. You should also be prepared to pay much higher prices during these times. A really great deal in town is the hotel located on Constitucion 21 called Real de los Alamos where you will pay 100 pesos per night and have a wonderful terrace view on top of the hotel. They only accept cash as payment here. There is another hostel located in Calle Zaragoza called Alcazaba where you have the option of camping or renting a bungalow with a kitchen and outdoor fire pit. If you camp the price is 45 pesos per night and the bungalows can go as high as 4500 pesos per night. They also accept cash only. If you are on a budget and need a clean and minimal room you will find just what you are looking for at the San Juan Hotel. The single rooms here are 100 pesos and you can also get a double for 140 pesos. They accept cash only. If you really want to splurge you can at El Meson de la Abundancia which is located on Langazirta and is known to be the old town treasury. this building is the oldest in town. The rooms are very big and have private balconies, and living rooms. The cost is 900 pesos for a double and 1000 pesos for a triple and 1100 pesos for a quad and they do accept visa and MasterCard.

Most of the restaurants in Real de Catorce serve Italian cuisine. The restaurant at the Real Hotel is called Restaurant El Real and it serves dinner in candle light and a cozy atmosphere. This restaurant just goes to show that Mexicans can do Italian food and they do it quite well. The price is around 25 pesos per meal. They serve many pasta and pizza dishes here. Another Italian restaurant serving foccacia sandwiches and delicious pizzas is that of La Esquina Chata where you can expect to pay around 50 pesos per meal. This restaurant is very nicely decorated with a lot of wood accents, romantic music, and all the food is prepared fresh. This is a restaurant you will not want to miss. If you are in the mood for more traditional Mexican food then you will want to head to El Toletino where you can enjoy live music, a bar upstairs, and traditional Mexican fare. The cost of a meal here is about 20 pesos and they are open from 12 noon to 1am.
