You will find La Pesca to be a cool and breezy town off Rio Soto la marina, the Laguna marina, and the Gulf of Mexico where you are able to find a respite from the heat and beaming sun. The population in La Pesca is under 2,000 people. This is a great escape and dream come true for those who love the beach, boating, and last but not least fishing. You will find this is a big tourist attraction on holiday weekends and summer months. This area remains dead when the summer is gone. the village is a tight knot community that you will get to see gather in the store fronts to chat and also to watch ball games.
You can get to La Pesca by taking a bus from Victoria. The ride lasts about three hours long and will cost a little over 100 pesos. To get back to Victoria you will also ned to take a bus back. You should be aware that there are no banks or ATM’s in La Pesca so bring plenty of cash. When you first enter La Pesca you will see a Laundromat on the left right before you hit the beach and on e block before you get to Hotel Titanic. You can do your laundry there for 13 pesos and it is open from 8am-8pm daily. You will be able to find emergency services, police, Red Cross, in Cento de Salud which is located just one block past the school house towards the beach. You will also be able to find a pharmacy called Farmacia Linda which keeps the hours of 8am-10:30 pm and accepts cash only. If you are in need of an internet cafe you will be happy to know they provide one and it is called Chat@Maryal and it is located a few blocks from the bridge as you make your way into town. The rates are 10 pesos per hour of use. and they are open daily from 9am-10pm. If you run out of money while visiting La Pesca you can go to the telegram office where they offer money wires and is open from 9am-3pm Monday through Friday and 9am-1pm on Saturdays. the postal code in La Pesca is 87670.
You can camp anywhere in Playa La Pesca for free. If camping is what you want to do you can take a short four mile ride on a bus to the peninsula tip. You will also find on the road that leads in to La Pesca many of the hotels offer riverside camping. Before you reach town you will happen on Hotel Marina del Rio which has grounds that are shaped like a dock as well as camping and available grills. Camping here will cost you 70 pesos per person. You can rent a bungalow which can sleep up to twelve people for about 1000 pesos a night. Cash Only. If you head to the other side of town you will find Hotel Tropicana and it is located about a half mile from the beach. here you can rent thatched roof bungalows with beds, sofas, and small kitchens as well as barbeque pits. if you want a bath you will need to pay 75 pesos per night. The bungalows go as high as 1000 pesos per night and sleep up to 12 people.
You can fish without any type of license and you are also welcome to keep whatever you catch. Many of the local hotels have docks and grills so that you can cook what you catch. You can even bring your catch to a restaurant and they will cook it for you. You will find a seafood restaurant named Magui’s which is located near the light house and serves many good seafood entrees for fewer than 30 pesos per plate. They are open from 10am-5pm Monday Through Thursday and on weekends they are open 10am-8pm. If it is oysters you are craving you should head over to Cocina Economica where they have the freshest oysters around. This place lives up to its name because you can get good food for very little money. You will find them to be open Monday through Thursday from 10am -5pm and weekends 10am-sundown. They only accept cash.
You will find the beaches in La Pesca to be layered in white sand and you will also find many sea turtles that are in the endangered species list. You will find the turtles to be resting here in the spring from March till June. You will also see the release of many baby turtles by governmental agencies if you are here during June and July. You can also find a turtle center right by the light house on La Playa Pesca. You will also see that many nearby cities like to organize fishing contests in La Pesca. You will find the largest fishing Tournament in November. Many of the hotels provide and set up boat rentals which run 800 pesos for a full day and 350 pesos for a half day.
